Samastipur: A woman in Samastipur district allegedly took her own life along with her six-year-old daughter after accusing her brother-in-law of molestation and enduring continued abuse from her husband and in-laws.
The incident occurred in Vasudevpuram village under Kalyanpur police station. According to the family, Suman Devi, who was married to Roshan Chaudhary seven years ago, strangled her daughter Aradhya Kumari with a dupatta before attempting to kill her son. The son escaped and ran to his grandmother. When he returned, he found his mother hanging.
Suman’s sister Santoshi said that Suman had not eaten for four days and had confided that her brother-in-law Gulshan repeatedly tried to approach her inappropriately. Instead of supporting her, her husband allegedly harassed her further and often complained to his mother, which led to frequent abuse. The family claimed that women in the neighbourhood also taunted and harassed her, leaving her socially isolated.
The deceased’s father, Dinesh Chaudhary, said that Suman had initially been happy after marriage and had a daughter and son. However, problems began when she accused her brother-in-law of molestation. Despite informing her husband and in-laws, the family allegedly blamed and taunted her instead of addressing the issue. Following the incident, the brother-in-law fled from the house.
The local police have initiated an investigation into the deaths, and the bodies have been sent for post-mortem examination.
