Muzaffarpur: A young man in Muzaffarpur district was critically injured after being shot by assailants for confronting them over the molestation of his sister. The incident took place on Sunday in a village under Paru police station.
According to police, the man was sitting outside his house when a group of around 15-20 people arrived armed with sticks and began beating him. During the attack, his head was injured. As the attackers were leaving, one of them shot him in the leg.
The victim, identified as Vishal, is undergoing treatment in critical condition at Sri Krishna Medical College Hospital. He has named the shooter as a youth from the same village.
The violence stems from an old rivalry. About a month ago, Vishal had been teaching his sister to ride a bike when another youth allegedly made obscene comments towards her. This led to a heated dispute and a fight at that time, but the situation had calmed down until it turned violent again on Sunday.
Following the attack, police have deployed forces in the village as a precautionary measure. Raids are underway to arrest the named accused, said Chandan Kumar, SHO of Paru police station.
Family members of the injured youth have demanded strict action against the culprits. The incident has triggered an atmosphere of fear and tension in the area.
