Bettiah: Four youths have been arrested for pelting stones at the Vande Bharat Express near Chanpatia station in Bettiah district, causing damage to the windows of two coaches and triggering panic among passengers.
The incident occurred on Monday, late in the evening, when the train was travelling from Patliputra to Gorakhpur. According to passengers, stones struck the glass of coaches C4 and C5 with a loud noise, shattering the windows and damaging the gates. No injuries were reported, but travellers described a sense of fear as the stones could have entered the coaches, potentially causing a serious accident.
Police said the accused – Hrithik Kumar, Harish Kumar, Golu Kumar and Bhoj Patel – were arrested from the railway track near pole number 225/31. They are being sent to jail.
This comes barely a month after the Patna-Gorakhpur Vande Bharat Express was inaugurated on June 20. The frequent targeting of the train by anti-social elements has raised concerns over passenger safety and railway property security in the region.
