Patna: The monsoon session of the Bihar Legislative Assembly began on Monday with uproar as the opposition demanded a debate on the alleged conspiracy to delete names from the voter list. Opposition MLAs protested with banners and posters, leading to repeated adjournments of the House.
Leader of Opposition Tejashwi Prasad Yadav chaired a meeting of Mahagathbandhan MLAs in the assembly premises to plan their strategy. Speaking to reporters, he said, “It is necessary to discuss this conspiracy in the House at all costs. Otherwise, we will give a political and democratic answer.”
He alleged that the voter list revision process was being misused to disenfranchise lakhs of voters without any fault of their own, calling it an attack on democracy. He added that Mahagathbandhan representatives had already urged the Speaker to hold an urgent debate on the issue.
Earlier, Tejashwi Prasad Yadav had written to 35 senior political leaders across the country, stating that the special intensive revision in Bihar was shaking public faith in the electoral system by depriving people of their voting rights.
The assembly session was adjourned till the next day as the opposition remained firm on its demand for discussion.
