Patna: The Patna Meteorological Centre has issued a yellow alert for heavy rainfall accompanied by thunder and lightning in seven districts of Bihar on Thursday, including Patna, Kaimur, Rohtas, Aurangabad, Gayaji, Nawada and Jamui. Other parts of the state are likely to see cloudy conditions with thunder and lightning.
Officials said winds of 30–40 km/h with gusts are expected in southern Bihar, while Wednesday’s shifting cloud cover left Patna and its surrounding areas hot and humid until rain fell in the evening.
Over the past 24 hours, the capital recorded 15.2 mm of rainfall, while Sampatchak in Patna district received the highest at 25.2 mm. Patna also registered the state’s highest maximum temperature on Wednesday at 34.5°C.
In the past 24 hours, rainfall in Bihar varied across districts with Fatuha in Patna recording 24.8 mm, Danapur 16.2 mm, Phulwarisharif 15.6 mm, Bihta 15 mm and Khusrupur 14.8 mm. Jalalgarh in Purnia received 21.5 mm, while Tarapur in Munger saw 13 mm and Katoria in Banka 11.2 mm. Barun in Aurangabad recorded 9 mm, Chandan in Banka 8.4 mm, Buxar 6.8 mm, Kadwa in Katihar 6.4 mm and Amour in Purnia 6.2 mm. Katihar town and Koilwar in Bhojpur registered 6 mm each, Chakai in Jamui 5.8 mm, Belhar in Banka 5.4 mm, Gurua in Gayaji 5.3 mm, Hulasganj in Jehanabad 4.6 mm and Purnia town 4.3 mm.
The Met Centre has advised residents to remain cautious as heavy rain and gusty winds may cause waterlogging, poor visibility and risks from lightning strikes.
