Patna: Bihar is preparing to welcome its first world-class cricket stadium in Rajgir. The construction work is almost complete, and the stadium is expected to be ready by next month. Once finished, it will be officially inaugurated and open for practice and matches.
The stadium is being built according to the standards set by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). It will have modern facilities and can seat up to 40,000 spectators. Spread over 18 acres, the stadium includes a five-storey pavilion with special areas for players, match officials, media, and VIP guests.
There will be 13 pitches at the stadium – seven made from black soil from Mokama, and six using red soil from Maharashtra. Mokama’s soil is known to offer better bounce. The ground has already been covered with grass, and regular cutting and maintenance work is underway. A proper drainage system has also been installed to ensure matches can continue even after rain.
The stadium will also have a gym, spa, physio room, laundry, and medical centre for players. Media rooms, camera platforms, commentary boxes, and corporate suites with private balconies will give fans and journalists a great match-day experience. The BCCI Chief Curator is overseeing pitch preparation, and matches will be allowed only after his final approval. This new stadium is expected to boost cricket in Bihar and help local players access better training facilities.
