Patna: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has intensified its campaign for the Bankipur Assembly by-election by announcing a list of 40 star campaigners. The list includes Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary, Rajya Sabha MP Nitin Nabin and BJP MLC Pawan Singh, among other senior leaders.
Voting for the Bankipur bypoll is scheduled for July 30, while the counting of votes will take place on August 3.
BJP Focuses on Retaining Stronghold
The Bankipur Assembly constituency has remained with the BJP since 1995 and is regarded as one of the party’s strongest urban seats in Bihar.
The by-election became necessary after Nitin Nabin resigned as the constituency’s MLA following his election to the Rajya Sabha.
The BJP has fielded long-time party worker Neeraj Kumar Sinha as its candidate. The party’s 40-member campaign team includes senior leaders, Bihar government ministers and key organisational office-bearers tasked with leading the election campaign across the constituency.
Contest Expected to Be Closely Watched
The bypoll has attracted significant political attention, with Jan Suraaj nominating its founder Prashant Kishor as its candidate against the BJP’s Neeraj Kumar Sinha.
The election is being viewed as an important political contest, with the BJP seeking to retain a seat it has held for more than three decades, while opposition parties aim to break its dominance in the constituency.
Nitin Nabin Highlights Long Association With Constituency
Addressing a press conference in Patna earlier, Nitin Nabin said he shares a long-standing relationship with the people of Bankipur and had returned to the constituency in response to their wishes.
He said it was his responsibility, both as a party worker and a public representative, to remain connected with the people. Nabin also thanked the BJP leadership for entrusting important responsibilities to what he described as a humble party worker.
‘Twenty Years of Working With the People’
Nabin said he has worked alongside Bankipur residents and BJP workers for the past 20 years. He added that he has remained in regular contact with the constituency and has consistently sought to meet the expectations of its people.
With polling day approaching, the BJP has begun an extensive campaign to consolidate support in Bankipur, while rival parties continue efforts to challenge its long-standing electoral hold on the constituency.
