Patna: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has intensified its protests across Bihar after remarks against Prime Minister Narendra Modi were allegedly made at a public event in Darbhanga.
On Sunday evening, party leaders and workers held a candle march from the BJP state office in Patna to Sapt Murti. State president Dilip Jaiswal and several senior leaders joined the demonstration, demanding a public apology from opposition figures Tejashwi Yadav and Rahul Gandhi. “Our protest will continue until they apologise,” one leader said.
The rally followed a silent dharna staged by BJP workers on Friday at Gandhi Maidan, where protesters wore black bands as a mark of dissent.
Tensions have also flared elsewhere. During a march from Kurji turn to Sadakat Ashram, clashes broke out between BJP supporters and Congress workers, leading to stone-pelting and scuffles. The situation was later brought under control by police.
BJP leaders have framed the controversy as an insult to the nation. “The Prime Minister is a symbol of the country’s honour. Using abusive language against him is an insult to the entire country,” a party statement said. The party has warned it will escalate its agitation in the coming days unless Congress and RJD leaders issue an apology.
