Patna: With political activity intensifying for the Bihar Assembly elections, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has concluded its candidate selection process, announcing the names for all 101 seats allocated to it under the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) banner.
Balancing Experience and Youth
The BJP’s selection strategy appears to be a careful balancing act between rewarding loyalty and injecting fresh vigor into the campaign. The initial list reportedly gave tickets to several prominent and experienced leaders, signaling the party’s desire to maintain its grip on traditional strongholds.
The subsequent second and third lists, however, focused on introducing youth, women, and strong local workers. This influx of new and energetic faces is intended to pose a strong challenge to opposition candidates in various constituencies and create significant enthusiasm among the party’s grassroots workers.
According to internal party sources, the key metrics prioritized during candidate selection were caste considerations, the candidate’s local influence, and their loyalty to the organization. Of particular note is the fielding of many leaders who have worked actively within the organization for years but are contesting an election for the first time.
Finalizing the NDA Tally
The announcement by the BJP follows similar declarations by its NDA allies. The finalized seat-sharing arrangement sees the BJP contesting 101 seats, while the Janata Dal (United) (JDU) has the right to field candidates on 122 seats.
The remaining constituencies will see candidates from other key partners in the alliance, including Hindustani Awam Morcha (Secular) (HAM(S)) and Rashtriya Lok Janshakti Party. With all major parties having now released their candidate lists, the focus of the Bihar Assembly elections shifts definitively toward ground-level campaigning and constituency battles.
