Patna: BJP MLC Sheila Pandit has approached the Sachivalaya police station in Patna seeking registration of an FIR against RJD MP Misa Bharti over the alleged disclosure and circulation of a photograph of the family of the minor victim in the Jamui case.
Pandit submitted an application to the Station House Officer, alleging that Bharti had made public a photograph purportedly showing the family of the minor victim before the electronic media and that the image was subsequently circulated on social media platforms.
The application seeks action under relevant legal provisions, citing the sensitive nature of the matter.
BJP Delegation Approaches Police
Pandit was accompanied by BJP Mahila Morcha state president Nisha Singh and other women leaders of the party.
The BJP delegation urged the police to register an FIR and investigate the circumstances in which the photograph was made public and circulated.
The development comes amid a wider controversy over the disclosure of the identity of the Jamui minor victim. Police had earlier registered a case against an employee of the Chief Minister’s Office over a photograph of the victim and her family that was posted on the Chief Minister’s official X account and later deleted.
Misa Bharti Had Earlier Approached Police
A day earlier, Bharti had also visited the Sachivalaya police station in connection with the photograph controversy. She had sought action over the sharing of the victim’s photograph from the Chief Minister’s official social media handle.
Bharti subsequently tore up her application in front of the media, alleging that police had refused to accept it.
Police, however, said her application had been taken on record and made part of the investigation into the case already registered.
CMO Employee Booked
The photograph at the centre of the earlier controversy showed the Chief Minister with the minor victim and her family. It was removed shortly after being posted.
An FIR was subsequently registered at Sachivalaya police station against a CMO employee over the uploading of the photograph. The police complaint cited concerns over the privacy and dignity of the minor and the possibility of her identity being disclosed.
