Bodh Gaya: Preparations are under way in Bodhgaya for the 2570th observance of Buddha Purnima, which commemorates the birth, enlightenment and passing of Gautama Buddha and will be marked on May 1.
The premises of the Mahabodhi Temple are being decorated with colourful Buddhist flags, particularly around the sacred Mahabodhi Tree, where the Buddha is believed to have attained enlightenment. The wider temple complex is also being prepared to create an atmosphere of spiritual observance.
Cleanliness drives have been carried out across the area, with open spaces cleared and landscaped to accommodate the expected influx of pilgrims. Officials and volunteers are working to ensure that the site remains orderly and accessible during the celebrations.
The annual festival draws thousands of devotees from India and abroad, many of whom gather beneath the Bodhi Tree for prayers, meditation and ceremonial rituals. This year’s arrangements reflect the significance of the occasion, as Bodhgaya prepares to host visitors paying homage to the life and teachings of the Buddha.
