Patna: The fourth phase of teacher recruitment through the Bihar Public Service Commission is set to begin soon, with vacancy details expected to be forwarded to the commission later this month, Bihar’s education minister said on Monday.
Addressing a press conference, Sunil Kumar said the vacancy list for the TRE 4 recruitment drive would be sent to the Bihar Public Service Commission between January 15 and January 20. “After that, the further process will begin. The BPSC will soon release an advertisement,” he said.
Alongside the recruitment drive, the minister announced that around 5,500 appointments would be made on compassionate grounds across various posts in the education sector. He said the dropout rate in Bihar’s schools had fallen to below 1%, adding that the department had addressed several long-standing issues faced by teachers and was now focusing on transfers, salaries and leave-related matters.
Sunil Kumar acknowledged that some districts in Bihar continue to face shortages of school buildings, forcing institutions to operate from alternative locations. He said the government aimed to address these gaps within the next six months. “More than 5,000 librarian posts will also be filled,” he added.
The minister credited sustained policy focus since 2005 for improvements in the education sector, noting that the state budget had grown substantially over the period. He said that when Nitish Kumar assumed office in 2005, the budget stood at around Rs 4,000 crore, compared with more than Rs 70,000 crore today. “We will continue to prioritise quality education,” he said, referring to the cabinet’s recent approval of the ‘Seven Resolutions 3’ scheme, under which education will receive special attention.
Looking ahead, the minister said the government planned to open a degree college in every block. He noted that the number of teachers in Bihar had risen from about 2 lakh in 2005 to more than 5 lakh today, reflecting expanded recruitment over the past two decades.
Responding to a question on the appointment of Ashok Choudhary as a professor, Sunil Kumar said the matter had been referred to the commission, citing discrepancies in certificates. He said the appointment would proceed once the commission submitted its response.
Officials said the upcoming recruitment and expansion plans were intended to strengthen Bihar’s education system and address long-standing gaps in staffing and infrastructure.
