Patna: The Bihar Urban Infrastructure Development Corporation (BUIDCO) has constituted special teams to ensure rapid drainage and minimise waterlogging in Patna, Danapur, Phulwari, Khagaul and nearby urban areas during the monsoon season.
BUIDCO managing director Animesh Kumar Parashar has assigned responsibilities to officials and issued detailed operational guidelines for monsoon preparedness.
Pumping stations to undergo trial run
According to BUIDCO, repair work on motors, pumps and transformers installed at permanent and temporary drainage pumping stations has been completed.
A full trial run of the systems is scheduled for Saturday to assess operational readiness before heavy rainfall begins.
Engineers to remain stationed on-site
BUIDCO has deployed officials ranging from project directors to junior engineers at each pumping station.
During the monsoon period, engineers will remain stationed at their assigned locations and monitor daily logbooks, fuel availability and operational systems. The work has been categorised under disaster management responsibilities.
Backup arrangements for emergencies
Officials said diesel generator sets and diesel-operated pumps will be activated immediately in case of power outages.
Each station has been stocked with essential supplies including diesel, batteries, grease and repair tools. Alternative lighting arrangements have also been made at critical locations.
Coordination with civic agencies
Coordination mechanisms have been established with Patna Municipal Corporation, local urban bodies in Danapur, Phulwari and Khagaul, as well as the power utility PESU.
Regular desilting and cleaning of drains connected to pumping stations will be carried out to ensure uninterrupted water flow during rainfall.
Rapid repair and monitoring system in place
Private workshops have been identified for emergency repair of pumps and motors, while fuel stations have been listed for uninterrupted diesel supply.
Officials said any technical fault will be reported directly to the control room and concerned authorities to ensure timely repairs.
Accountability fixed for officials and contractors
The operation of all stations will continue through contracted agencies responsible for deploying operators and sanitation workers in shifts.
BUIDCO has clarified that the monsoon management period will continue until October 15 this year. Authorities warned that negligence during the period could invite strict action against responsible personnel.
Officials said the objective is to ensure normal civic life and minimise urban flooding even during periods of heavy rainfall.
