Patna: The Bihar government has decided to lease out unused land belonging to the Road Construction Department across various districts of the state. The move aims to prevent encroachment and generate additional revenue for the state exchequer.
Road Construction Minister Er. Shailendra said that several parcels of departmental land remain unutilised and are vulnerable to illegal occupation. He added that putting such land on lease would ensure both protection and productive use.
Survey of Available Land Ordered
The minister has directed officials to prepare a detailed inventory of all vacant land under the Road Construction Department across Bihar. This record will include location-wise details along with sketch maps to establish a clear land database.
Officials have also been asked to submit a consolidated report highlighting the exact availability of land in each district and its present status.
Leasing Framework Under Preparation
Shailendra instructed the department to develop a structured plan outlining how and for what purposes the identified land can be leased. The objective, he said, is to ensure transparency while enabling productive utilisation of government assets.
He emphasised that the initiative will serve a dual purpose—protecting government land from encroachment and generating steady revenue for the state.
Inspection Bungalows Under Review
In a separate directive, the minister sought a detailed report on inspection bungalows of the department located across districts. He noted reports suggesting that some of these properties are under alleged unauthorised occupation by district administration or police personnel.
He directed officials to take necessary steps to reclaim such properties and bring them back under departmental control.
