Patna: The Bihar Urban Infrastructure Development Corporation (BUIDCO) has deployed engineers on overnight duty at seven critical drainage pumping stations (DPS) across Patna as part of its monsoon preparedness measures. According to the corporation, the arrangement began on the night of July 15 and will continue in two phases until July 31 to help ensure uninterrupted operation of the city’s drainage infrastructure during periods of heavy rainfall.

The decision was taken on the instructions of BUIDCO Managing Director Animesh Kumar Parashar. Officials said engineers will remain on site from 10pm to 6am each day, handing over responsibilities directly to the incoming morning shift to maintain continuous supervision of the pumping stations.

What BUIDCO Is Aiming to Achieve

According to BUIDCO, the additional night deployment is intended to improve the response to waterlogging by ensuring that technical staff are immediately available if pumps develop faults or rainfall leads to a sudden rise in water levels.

The corporation said the engineers will inspect equipment, monitor pump operations and respond promptly to complaints relating to technical failures or drainage issues. Officials have also been instructed to remain on alert throughout the monsoon period.

The seven pumping stations covered by the special deployment are located at Pahadi, Yogipur, Saidpur, Mandiri, Rajapur/Gosaitola, Kurji and Eco Park. These facilities are among the city’s key drainage installations for removing rainwater during the monsoon.

Deployment Scheduled in Two Phases

According to the official deployment order, the overnight duty roster has been divided into two phases.

The first phase runs from July 15 to July 22, while the second phase will continue from July 23 to July 31. Different mechanical and civil engineering officers have been assigned to each pumping station during the two periods to ensure continuous staffing.

BUIDCO said the engineers will remain at their respective stations throughout the night until the next shift officer arrives, reducing the possibility of operational gaps during periods of rainfall.

First Phase Deputation – From 15.07.2026 to 22.07.2026*

Kurji DPS* – Mr. Adil Hussain, DPD (Mechanical)

Eco Park DPS* – Mr. Rajiv Kumar, APD (Civil), Nutan Rajdhani Zone

Round-the-Clock Monitoring Continues

The overnight deployment complements BUIDCO’s existing 24-hour monitoring system for Patna’s drainage network.

According to the corporation, operators are already stationed at sump houses in three shifts throughout the day, while a dedicated control room continuously monitors all pumping stations.

Officials said the control room provides real-time information on pump operations, electricity consumption, running hours, pump temperature, fuel availability and water levels inside the sump houses. The monitoring system is intended to help engineers identify operational issues quickly and coordinate responses when required.

Coordination With Patna Municipal Corporation

BUIDCO said the control room functions in three eight-hour shifts — from 6am to 2pm, 2pm to 10pm and 10pm to 6am. Each shift is staffed by an officer or Deputy Project Director along with two data entry operators.

According to the corporation, control room personnel remain in communication with the Patna Municipal Corporation through walkie-talkies, enabling coordination during rainfall events and reports of waterlogging.

The special overnight deployment is scheduled to remain in place until July 31, after which BUIDCO is expected to review the arrangement based on the monsoon situation. Officials said the enhanced monitoring and staffing are intended to strengthen the city’s ability to respond to heavy rainfall and minimise disruption caused by waterlogging.
