Patna: Energy Secretary and Bihar State Power Holding Company Limited (BSPHCL) Chairman-cum-Managing Director Ajay Yadav on Thursday inspected the under-construction Kajra Solar Power Project with Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) in Lakhisarai and reviewed the implementation of the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana, power supply arrangements and consumer services across the region.

Yadav also inspected the 220/132/33 kV Mokama Grid Substation and later visited beneficiaries of the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana at Sonaru Road in Fatuha to assess rooftop solar installations.

Kajra Solar Project Progress Reviewed

During the inspection, Yadav reviewed progress on the second phase of the Kajra Solar Power Project and directed officials and implementing agencies to complete the work within the stipulated timeline while maintaining quality standards.

According to BSPHCL, the first phase of the project, comprising 185 MW of solar power generation and a 282 MWh Battery Energy Storage System, has been in commercial operation since February 26, 2026.

The second phase includes 116 MW of additional solar capacity and a 241 MWh Battery Energy Storage System, which is currently under construction.

Once completed, the Kajra project will have a total capacity of 301 MW of solar power and a 523 MWh Battery Energy Storage System. BSPHCL said the project is among the country’s largest BESS facilities and is expected to improve grid stability during peak demand while enabling electricity supply for nearly four hours after sunset through stored energy.

Review Meeting Focuses on Consumer Services

At a review meeting held at the Lakhisarai Circuit House, Yadav assessed the implementation of the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana, revenue collection, consumer grievance redressal, power supply and the progress of ongoing electricity projects.

The meeting was attended by Lakhisarai District Magistrate Shailendra Kumar and senior officials of the power distribution companies.

The Energy Secretary directed officials to ensure prompt resolution of consumer complaints, conduct regular inspections of scheme beneficiaries, replace burnt transformers within prescribed timelines and maintain adequate transformer stock.

He also instructed officials to disconnect electricity connections of consumers who fail to clear dues on time and to accelerate revenue collection.

Substation Projects Targeted for November Completion

Yadav directed officials to complete the ongoing 33/11 kV substations at Garhirampur in Munger district and Ashokdham and Bannu Baghicha in Lakhisarai by November 2026.

He emphasised that timely completion of these projects would strengthen electricity infrastructure and help provide uninterrupted power supply to consumers.

The Energy Secretary also instructed officials to follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) strictly and ensure timely completion of all development works.

Mokama Grid Operations Assessed

During his visit to the 220/132/33 kV Mokama Grid Substation, Yadav reviewed grid operations, maintenance systems, power supply reliability and ongoing technical improvements.

He directed officials to maintain grid efficiency, ensure uninterrupted and quality electricity supply, and update the SOP Register daily while adhering to all operational and maintenance standards.

Rooftop Solar Installations Inspected

Later, Yadav visited households on Sonaru Road in Fatuha that have installed rooftop solar systems under the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana.

He reviewed the functioning of the installations, interacted with beneficiaries about their experience and directed officials to ensure that rooftop solar systems are installed safely, in accordance with prescribed standards and within the stipulated timeline so that more consumers can benefit from the scheme.
