Patna: The Cyber Crime and Security Unit (CCSU) of the Bihar Police has issued a notice to X (formerly Twitter) seeking action against 10 social media accounts, including the Rashtriya Janata Dal’s (RJD) official X handle, over posts allegedly containing objectionable content targeting Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary.

The notice asks the platform to remove the identified posts, preserve all related electronic evidence and provide details of the operators of the accounts as part of an ongoing investigation.

Police Seek Removal of Posts

According to the CCSU, the notice has been issued under Section 79 of the Information Technology Act, 2000, the Information Technology Rules, and relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS).

The notice states that the identified X handles allegedly published misleading posts against the Chief Minister that could mislead the public and adversely affect public order and the law-and-order situation.

Links to the posts from all 10 identified accounts have been included in the communication sent to X, with instructions for their immediate removal.

Request for User Information and Digital Evidence

The CCSU has also sought details linked to the accounts, including the original uploader’s name, IP address, phone number, email address, GPS location, login records, upload details and other digital information associated with the posts.

The notice further directs X to preserve all electronic evidence related to the content to support the police investigation.

The CCSU said failure to comply within the stipulated timeframe could result in legal proceedings under the applicable provisions of the Information Technology Act and the BNSS.

RJD Questions Police Action

The RJD shared an image of the police notice on its official X handle and questioned whether the Bihar Police intended to “control the opposition” as well.

In its response, the party said that if a political leader is unable to accept criticism or hear the truth, they should reconsider remaining in politics.

Neither Bihar Police nor the RJD has announced any further action beyond the exchange of the notice and the party’s public response.
