Patna: Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) spokesperson Mrityunjay Tiwari resigned from the party on Thursday, alleging that Tejashwi Prasad Yadav has been “hijacked” by a small group of leaders and claiming that even Lalu Prasad and Rabri Devi are no longer able to influence the party’s functioning.
Tiwari, who has been one of the RJD’s most visible media faces for several years, submitted his resignation to Bihar RJD president Mangnilal Mandal. His departure is being viewed as a setback for the opposition party ahead of the Assembly elections.
‘No Respect For Loyal Workers’
Announcing his resignation, Tiwari said he no longer felt respected within the party despite years of dedicated service.
He claimed that he had repeatedly raised his concerns with Tejashwi Prasad Yadav but received no response.
“Politics cannot be pursued with self-respect compromised,” he said, adding that he no longer saw any reason to continue in the party.
‘Tejashwi Has Been Hijacked’
Speaking to reporters after resigning, Tiwari alleged that a handful of individuals had taken control of the party’s decision-making.
He claimed these leaders had “hijacked” Tejashwi Prasad Yadav and were effectively running the organisation.
According to Tiwari, the situation has persisted for the past six to seven months, with only a small group wielding influence over party affairs.
He further alleged that even senior leaders were compelled to follow the wishes of this group.
Claims About Lalu Prasad And Rabri Devi
Tiwari also claimed that Lalu Prasad and former Chief Minister Rabri Devi were unable to intervene effectively in the party’s internal functioning.
He said Lalu Prasad had personally appointed him as the RJD’s media in-charge and that he had always defended the party’s position in public without engaging in indiscipline.
According to Tiwari, circumstances within the organisation had changed to the extent that he no longer considered it appropriate to remain associated with the party.
Reported Differences Within The Party
According to party sources, Tiwari had been unhappy with chief spokesperson Shakti Singh Yadav and had reportedly complained to the party leadership.
Sources also indicated that Tiwari was dissatisfied after reportedly being prevented from representing the party on national television debates, a role he had performed regularly as media in-charge.
Leaders Urged Him To Reconsider
Tiwari said he handed over his resignation at the RJD office in the presence of several senior leaders, including Sunil Singh and Tanvir Hassan.
According to him, party leaders requested that he reconsider his decision.
However, when asked by reporters, Bihar RJD president Mangnilal Mandal said he had not received any resignation letter.
Tiwari later issued a separate statement confirming that he had resigned from all positions within the party, reiterating that he felt humiliated and no longer wished to continue with the RJD.
