Patna: The prime accused in the Bunty Yadav murder case was arrested following an early-morning police encounter in Patna on Thursday after he allegedly opened fire on a police team attempting to apprehend him.
According to police, Ravish Kumar alias BC, who had been absconding since the murder, sustained a bullet injury to his right leg during retaliatory firing and was subsequently taken into custody.
Police Acted On Intelligence Input
Police said they received information that Ravish alias BC was hiding in the Buddha Colony area of Patna.
Acting on the tip-off, a joint team from Buddha Colony police station and the District Intelligence Unit (DIU) surrounded the area and launched a search operation.
According to investigators, the accused allegedly opened fire as officers moved in to arrest him.
Police Return Fire
Police alleged that one of the bullets fired by the accused struck the bonnet of a police vehicle during the operation.
Officials said the police team returned fire in self-defence, during which Ravish alias BC was shot in the right leg.
He was arrested at the scene and taken to Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH), where he is undergoing treatment.
Police also recovered a firearm from the encounter site. The weapon has been sent for forensic examination to determine whether it was used during the alleged firing at the police team.
Forensic Team Examines Scene
Following the encounter, ASP (Law and Order) Krishna Murari Prasad, forensic experts, Kotwali police officers and DIU personnel visited the spot.
Police said the area was examined and scientific evidence was collected as part of the investigation.
Murder Linked To Alleged Liquor Trade Dispute
According to police, Bunty Yadav, a businessman from Karbigahiya, was abducted near the Hanuman Temple in the Kotwali police station area on the night of July 6.
His body was recovered five days later, on July 11, from a field in the Athmalgola police station area.
Investigators have alleged that the murder stemmed from a dispute over the sharing of profits from the illegal liquor trade. Police claim Bunty Yadav was killed and his body was later dumped at the recovery site.
Several accused have already been arrested in connection with the case, while Ravish alias BC had remained on the run until Thursday’s operation.

Police To Question Accused
Police officials said Ravish alias BC is named in multiple criminal cases registered at various police stations in Patna, including cases involving attempt to murder, robbery and extortion.
Investigators believe his interrogation could provide crucial information about the Bunty Yadav murder case as well as other alleged criminal activities and associates.
Police said further legal action will be taken after the accused receives medical treatment.
