Patna: Patna will soon get a new cultural attraction as a 17ft-high and 12ft-wide statue of a Chhath Vrati will be installed at Digha Ghat. The work is being done on the lines of Namo Ghat in Varanasi, and the statue will be ready before the upcoming Chhath festival. The special part of this project is that it is being made completely from waste materials under the “Waste to Wonder” theme.
The statue will show a Vrati, a devotee who observes the Chhath festival, holding a soop (the traditional bamboo basket) with both hands. Inside the soop, there will be fruits, sugarcane and prasad, all crafted from metal. This design represents the offering made to the Sun God during the festival. The organisers said that this will not only be a beautiful piece of art but also carry deep cultural and spiritual meaning.
According to BUIDCo’s managing director, Animesh Kumar Parashar, the sculpture will send a strong message about faith, tradition and sustainability. He said it will pay respect to the Sun, which is worshipped as the eternal source of energy and life. At the same time, it will remind society about the importance of protecting the environment and adopting a responsible lifestyle.
The Chhath festival is one of the biggest festivals of Bihar, celebrated with devotion and seen as a symbol of the state’s identity. The statue at Digha Ghat will add to the beauty of Patna’s riverfront and is expected to attract both devotees and tourists. Officials believe it will not just be an artistic symbol but also a reminder that art and culture can go hand in hand with environmental protection.
