Patna: The contract killing of gangster Chandan Mishra in Patna has taken a new turn following the interrogation of the prime accused, Tausif Raza, alias Badshah. Police say Badshah, who allegedly gunned down Mishra at Paras Hospital on July 17, took the contract after losing Rs 20 lakh in gambling.
According to police sources, Badshah was hired by Nishu, who has since been arrested in Kolkata. Investigations reveal that the group of shooters held a liquor-fuelled gathering at Nishu’s residence in Samanpura hours before the murder.
Badshah reportedly gained access to Mishra by telling hospital staff that the victim was his uncle and was admitted in room 209. After firing 28 rounds at Mishra, he is believed to have recorded a video of the incident. Police say the group initially lost their way inside the hospital before being directed by a staff member.
While Badshah has denied any connection to another suspect named Sheru, investigators maintain that Sheru is a key figure in orchestrating the hit. Sheru is currently in jail, but his wife, Lucky Singh, has written to the Chief Justice of India fearing her husband may be killed in a staged encounter.
During follow-up raids, three mobile phones and SIM cards allegedly used in the murder plot were recovered from Badshah’s sister’s residence in Gaya. Police say the call data records (CDRs) from the phones are now under scrutiny.
Additionally, both motorcycles used by the assailants were found to be stolen and fitted with fake registration plates. Raids continue across Patna, Gaya, and Buxar as police work to recover the murder weapon and apprehend remaining suspects.
