Patna: Tempers flared on the fourth day of the monsoon session in the Bihar Legislative Assembly, with Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary and Leader of Opposition Tejashwi Yadav trading a series of sharp and personal barbs during a stormy debate.
The clash began when Tejashwi Yadav raised concerns over irregularities in the voter verification process. “There is fraud happening—BLOs are signing forms themselves. Who are you to file an FIR against a journalist?” he questioned, referring to recent reports of alleged administrative overreach.
Choudhary hit back with a personal attack, saying, “What will he say whose father is a criminal? Go away… you are a robber.” The remark sparked uproar in the House, with Tejashwi retorting, “If you speak too loudly, you will get wet,” an apparent dig implying overconfidence.
The two leaders had earlier clashed over the state’s handling of paper leaks. “Bihar is number one in paper leaks,” Tejashwi claimed, prompting immediate objection from Choudhary, leading to a prolonged exchange.
Tejashwi also accused the BJP of sidelining Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, saying, “The Chief Minister has been hijacked. Bihar needs a courageous CM, not an unconscious one.” He alleged that key BJP leaders were undermining Kumar’s authority and questioned the CM’s absence from key meetings, including NITI Aayog and investor summits.
In defence, minister Vijay Choudhary countered, “You were also in government with us. You tried to hijack the CM but failed. No one can hijack Nitish ji.”
Furthering his attack, Tejashwi questioned the BJP’s commitment to Nitish Kumar. Referring to Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s statement that Kumar would lead the state until the next election, he asked, “Why can’t they confirm he’ll remain CM in 2025? This is a junk government.”
The session descended into further acrimony when BJP leader Vijay Sinha accused Tejashwi’s father, former CM Lalu Prasad Yadav, of looting Bihar. “The person you are calling junk, his father made Bihar a junkyard. Nitish ji brought development,” Sinha said.
Tejashwi responded with another personal jibe, saying, “Samrat Choudhary is so tall, you walk behind him like a dwarf,” directed at Sinha.
