Patna: In a shocking twist in the Chandan Mishra murder case, one of the main accused, Tausif Badshah, has made several important confessions to the police during his three-day remand. He admitted that after shooting Mishra inside Patna’s Paras Hospital on 17 July, he shook his body to confirm death and then recorded a video on his phone before fleeing. The video has since been deleted, but police have recovered three mobile phones from his sister’s house in Gaya.
Tausif told the police that the weapons used in the murder were handed over by another accused, Balwant, before the crime and taken back immediately after. However, the police have still not found the murder weapon. Balwant, who was injured in a recent police encounter, may face more questioning once his health improves. Sources say that doctors might even have to amputate his leg due to the injury.
The police have also uncovered the financial trail behind the murder. After the killing, Tausif and his cousin Nishu fled to Kolkata to collect the promised supari (contract killing) money. With no money for fuel, Sheru Singh, a jailed gangster from Buxar, sent them Rs 9,000 from Purulia jail to help them on the way. Sheru had reportedly promised Rs 5 lakh to each shooter for killing Chandan Mishra and told them to escape to Nepal to avoid arrest.
Investigations have revealed that the murder was linked to a land dispute involving Nishu and Sheru. The police are still searching for two absconding shooters, Monu and Nilesh. Meanwhile, another accused, Abhishek Kumar, currently lodged in Ara jail, will soon be taken on remand. Tausif, who wanted to become a don in Patna, had even changed his appearance by shaving clean in Kolkata after seeing news reports showing his photo. He is now being kept in a high-security jail, as the police continue to untangle this dangerous criminal network.
