Patna: Surya Kant, the Chief Justice of India, will arrive in Patna on Friday for his first official visit to the city, marking the occasion with the launch of several major infrastructure and technology projects at the Patna High Court.
On Saturday, the chief justice will lay the foundation stone for a series of new facilities within the Patna High Court complex, including an alternative dispute resolution (ADR) building with an auditorium, an administrative block, a multi-level car parking structure, a dedicated IT building, a residential complex and a hospital building. Together, the projects are estimated to cost Rs 302.56 crore and will cover a built-up area of about 46,675 sq metres.
During the ceremony, Justice Surya Kant will also inaugurate the “e-ACR Nyay” platform, a secure digital system developed by the Patna High Court’s in-house programming team. The platform is designed to modernise and streamline the annual confidential report (ACR) process for judicial officers, replacing paper-based assessments with a technology-driven workflow intended to improve efficiency and transparency.
The visit extends beyond Patna. The chief justice is scheduled to inaugurate a new judges’ guest house in Gaya and to take part in the groundbreaking ceremony for the upcoming campus of the Bihar Judicial Academy at Pothahi in Punpun block, on the outskirts of the state capital.
Senior judges, including the acting chief justice of the Patna High Court, Justice Sudhir Singh, are expected to attend the events. Court officials say the projects form part of a broader effort to expand judicial infrastructure in Bihar, reduce logistical bottlenecks and support the increasing use of digital tools in court administration.
On Saturday, Justice Surya Kant will attend the convocation ceremony at Chanakya National Law University in Mithapur, Patna, as chief guest. The ceremony will be presided over by Justice Sudhir Singh in his capacity as acting chief justice of the Patna High Court and chancellor of the university.
