Patna: Indian Railways has scaled back winter cancellations on the Patliputra–Gorakhpur Express, offering relief to passengers affected by dense fog across eastern India.
The railway administration announced that train numbers 15079 and 15080 will be cancelled only on Tuesdays and Fridays until February 1. Previously, services on the route had been suspended on four days each week due to safety concerns linked to low visibility.
Officials said the revised schedule strikes a balance between operational safety and passenger convenience during the peak fog season, when visibility levels frequently drop across Bihar and Uttar Pradesh.
“The safety of passengers remains our top priority during foggy conditions,” a railway spokesperson said, adding that the decision to reduce cancellations was taken to minimise inconvenience for regular travellers.
Separately, Indian Railways has announced temporary halts for seven pairs of trains at Prayagraj Rambagh and Jhunsi stations to accommodate pilgrims travelling for the Magh Mela.
The selected trains will stop for two minutes at both stations on various dates in January and February 2026. Services receiving the additional halts include long-distance trains such as the Jaynagar–Lokmanya Tilak Pavana Express, the Sitamarhi–Anand Vihar Lichchhavi Express, and the Darbhanga–Ahmedabad Antyodaya Express.
Railway officials stated that the measure aims to reduce congestion at Prayagraj Junction and provide pilgrims with easier access to areas closer to the mela grounds, thereby improving crowd management during one of India’s largest religious gatherings.
