Patna: In the last one year, the Bihar government has given government jobs to over 1.4 lakh people. Chief Minister Nitish Kumar handed out appointment letters to teachers, police constables, and revenue workers in different events. Most jobs were given to teachers – more than 1.1 lakh – followed by over 21,000 constables and around 10,000 revenue workers. The government says this is not just about giving jobs but also improving the economic and social life of the people.
Officials say that because of fixed reservations in government jobs, many youths from backward and Dalit families got a chance to improve their lives. Economists believe that giving jobs increases the income of families, improves their standard of living, and boosts the state’s economy. It will also help in increasing Bihar’s per capita income and Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP).
Data shows that in the last two to three years, nearly five lakh people have got government jobs in Bihar. The number of government employees has increased by almost one and a half times. At present, about seven lakh government employees get their salary through the Finance Department’s system. Apart from them, there are many contract workers whose salaries are paid directly by departments.
Experts say these jobs are bringing big changes to Bihar. Professor Deepak Kumar Behera of NIT Patna said that a government job makes a family’s life secure and improves their social status. Dr Bakshi Amit Kumar Sinha, an economist, said that with more people getting jobs, the work culture in government departments is improving and the economy is becoming stronger day by day.
