New Delhi/Patna: The Central Election Committee of the Congress met in Delhi on Tuesday to finalise its roadmap for the Bihar assembly elections, reviewing campaign plans, manifesto commitments and candidate selection while seat-sharing remained under negotiation.
Party leader Krishna Allavaru told reporters after the meeting that discussions with the senior leadership had covered multiple aspects of the campaign. “We reviewed the work done so far and set out further strategy,” he said, adding that while talks on seat allocation with allies were ongoing, Congress was confident of reaching “a good understanding” in time.
Asked about Vikassheel Insaan Party chief Mukesh Sahni’s insistence on a September 15 deadline for finalising seats, Allavaru dismissed the idea of fixed timelines. “It is not possible to put deadlines on these things, but our effort is to settle it as soon as possible,” he said. Talks are also continuing with Pashupati Paras’s Rashtriya Lok Janshakti Party and Hemant Soren’s Jharkhand Mukti Morcha, he added.

Congress is also considering its own position carefully. In the last assembly elections it contested 70 seats, winning only 19. With new allies joining the Mahagathbandhan, Congress may have to accept fewer constituencies this time. Party insiders suggested the number could drop to around 66 seats.
A separate committee will be formed within Congress to steer negotiations and oversee the candidate selection process. “Every big party has to make sacrifices when alliances expand,” Allavaru acknowledged.
The Mahagathbandhan now brings together RJD, Congress, the Left parties, VIP, RLJP and JMM. With the election announcement expected in October, the pressure on parties to finalise agreements is intensifying.
