Patna: The monsoon has regained strength in Bihar, prompting the India Meteorological Department (IMD) to issue a yellow alert for rain across the state on Wednesday. Winds are expected to blow at a speed of 30 to 40 km per hour, while many districts are likely to experience intermittent rainfall over the next 48 to 72 hours.
The IMD has warned of heavy showers in Patna within the next 24 hours, bringing much-needed respite from the prevailing humid heat. Officials said that a low-pressure area persists over the Bay of Bengal, pulling in moisture-laden winds into Bihar and triggering moderate to heavy rainfall in several districts in the coming days.
Heavy rainfall reported in several districts
In the past 24 hours, heavy rain lashed Katihar, Bettiah, Begusarai, Bhagalpur, and Raxaul. Patna, however, saw only drizzle, leaving residents struggling with strong sunlight and oppressive humidity through the day.

The couple had gone to harvest paddy when the incident occurred. The deceased has been identified as Jyoti Devi (32), while her husband Rajesh Sharma (40) sustained severe burns and is undergoing treatment at the Community Health Center in Beldaur.
Weather outlook for Patna
According to the Meteorological Center, Patna is expected to witness light to moderate rainfall for the next 48 hours, leading to a fall in day temperatures. This is likely to provide relief to residents who have been enduring sultry conditions.
On Tuesday, Patna recorded a maximum temperature of 36.4°C, making it the hottest district in Bihar. Darbhanga, Chapra, and Motihari also reported high temperatures, hovering around 35°C.
