Patna: Patna’s transformation dream is inching closer to reality as the redevelopment of the Mandiri Nala under the Smart City project nears completion. The worksite, lit up with floodlights and buzzing with heavy machinery even at midnight, looks more like the set of a big-budget city makeover film than a construction zone.
Currently, casting work is underway at the stretch near the Income Tax Golambar, paving the way for a direct link from Income Tax to Gandhi Maidan. Once finished, the smart road will connect Bailey Road to Siddheshwari Kali Mandir, easing traffic on Fraser Road, Buddha Marg and Ashok Rajpath.
The Rs 86.98 crore project spans 1,289 metres, with a unique twin-barrel RCC box drain running underneath to allow cleaning without damaging the road. Service drains, dividers and other finishing touches are in their final stages. Officials say the smart road will not only decongest the city but also offer cleaner, better-maintained infrastructure.
Patna Smart City Limited’s managing director, Animesh Kumar Parashar, has ordered daily reviews of progress and no compromise on quality. Workers, aided by high-capacity machines, are pressing ahead at full throttle, ensuring minimal inconvenience to residents while racing to meet the deadline.
For Patna’s weary commuters, the promise of a sleek, flood-resistant smart road cutting straight into the heart of the city may soon replace the frustration of endless traffic snarls.
