Patna: The impact of Cyclone Montha is beginning to influence Bihar’s weather, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting rain, thunderstorms, and strong winds across several districts in the coming days. The cyclone, which is intensifying over the Bay of Bengal, is expected to bring scattered rainfall and a dip in temperatures in parts of the state.
According to the IMD, rainfall is likely in West Champaran, East Champaran, Siwan, Saran, Gopalganj, Buxar, Bhojpur, Rohtas, Bhabua, Aurangabad, and Arwal, while other regions may witness partly cloudy to clear skies.
A heavy rain warning has been issued for Kaimur, Banka, Rohtas, Gaya, Sheikhpura, and Nawada on October 29, where isolated locations could experience intense showers accompanied by thunder and lightning. The department has also warned of gusty winds reaching speeds of up to 30 kmph across most districts.
Temperatures to Drop by 2–4°C After Showers
While no major change is expected in maximum temperatures over the next three days, the IMD has forecast a drop of 2–4°C thereafter, bringing cooler conditions to several parts of Bihar. Minimum temperatures are expected to remain stable over the next four days.
Cyclone Montha Intensifying Over Bay of Bengal
The IMD reported that Cyclone Montha was located over the west-central and adjoining southwest Bay of Bengal as of 5:37 pm on Monday. The system was moving northwestward at a speed of 15 kmph, positioned approximately 420 km east of Chennai, 450 km south-southeast of Kakinada, 500 km south-southeast of Visakhapatnam, and 670 km south-southwest of Gopalpur in Odisha.
Meteorologists said the cyclone is likely to intensify into a severe cyclonic storm by the morning of October 28, before crossing the Andhra Pradesh coast near Kakinada between Machilipatnam and Kalingapatnam by Tuesday evening or night.
The system is expected to pack wind speeds of 90–100 kmph, gusting up to 110 kmph, as it makes landfall. Authorities in coastal regions have been advised to remain alert and take necessary precautions.
