Patna: Transport Minister Damodar Rawat on Tuesday directed officials to prioritise public interest, meet revenue targets and ensure time-bound delivery of services related to driving licences and vehicle registration.
Rawat issued the directions during a departmental review meeting at Adhiveshan Bhawan in Patna, where officials reviewed the progress of departmental schemes, revenue collection, enforcement, road safety and other key activities.
Focus On Timely Public Services
Rawat said the Transport Department is among the state government’s major revenue-generating departments and has direct interaction with citizens.
He asked District Transport Officers to achieve their assigned revenue targets while ensuring transparent and high-quality services. He also stressed that services related to driving licences and vehicle registration should be completed within stipulated timeframes.
Officials were directed to regularly review their performance and avoid delays in matters involving public interest.
Rawat also said officials who perform well would continue to be encouraged, with a focus on building a culture of excellence within the department.
Road Safety And Transport Schemes Reviewed
Transport Secretary Raj Kumar said the department’s objective extends beyond meeting targets to improving citizens’ trust and satisfaction with its services.
He said officials should work to improve operational efficiency and transparency while maintaining a public-service approach. The department is also working towards smoother and safer transportation, with new technologies being incorporated into road safety initiatives.
State Transport Commissioner Arif Ahsan presented a detailed review of departmental activities, revenue collection, driving licence and vehicle registration services, enforcement operations and other key matters.
The meeting also examined district-wise achievements, challenges and strategies to meet the assigned targets.
Among the schemes reviewed were the Chief Minister’s Bihar Environment-Friendly Transport Employment Scheme, revised Bihar E-Vehicle Policy-2026, PM-eBus Sewa, bus stop construction, driving testing tracks, driver training institutes, automated testing stations and vehicle scrapping facilities.
Officials also reviewed the Prime Minister’s Relief Scheme for hit-and-run cases and digital services for driving licences and vehicle registration.
Officials Honoured For Performance
District Transport Officers, Additional District Transport Officers, Motor Vehicle Inspectors and Enforcement Sub-Inspectors who demonstrated strong performance in revenue collection and departmental operations were presented certificates of appreciation and mementos.
The department placed particular emphasis on target-oriented implementation of its schemes and instructed officials to conduct regular reviews to ensure targets are achieved on time.
The meeting was attended by Transport Department Secretary Raj Kumar, State Transport Commissioner Arif Ahsan, Bihar State Road Transport Corporation Administrator Atul Kumar Verma, Additional Secretary Praveen Kumar, Joint Secretary Indu Kumari, Deputy Secretary Aruna Kumari and other departmental officials.
District Transport Officers, Additional District Transport Officers, Motor Vehicle Inspectors and Enforcement Sub-Inspectors from various districts also attended the meeting.
