Patna: The Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC) has launched a comprehensive citywide exercise to bring every apartment, flat and land parcel within its jurisdiction under the property tax system, as part of a broader effort to improve transparency in tax collection and strengthen municipal finances.
The civic body has prepared a detailed action plan to ensure that all flats in apartment complexes and multi-storey buildings across its zones are assessed for property tax in a timely and accurate manner.
Officials say the campaign is intended to identify properties that have either remained outside the tax net or are currently assessed below their actual tax liability.
Door-To-Door Verification Of Apartments
Under the initiative, Sanitation Inspectors will conduct regular field visits to identify and physically verify apartment buildings and multi-storey residential complexes in their respective areas.
During these inspections, officials will compile detailed information, including the total number of flats, the number of floors, the location of the building and other property-related details required for tax assessment.
The survey aims to create an updated and comprehensive database of residential properties across the city.
Resident Associations To Be Involved
Alongside the field verification, Ward Nodal Officers will coordinate with apartment associations, secretaries and management committees.
They will ensure that the standard property information forms prescribed by the Municipal Corporation headquarters are completed accurately and submitted with all required details.
Officials believe the involvement of apartment management committees will help create reliable and up-to-date records for each residential complex.
Revenue Officials To Verify Assessments
Once the field data is collected, the documents will be scrutinised by the concerned Revenue Officers, who will cross-check the information against existing municipal records.
The verification process is intended to ensure that property tax assessments are accurate, transparent and free from discrepancies.
After completing the review, the respective Executive Officers will submit reports to the Municipal Corporation headquarters for further action.
Focus On Revenue And Civic Services
The Municipal Corporation expects the campaign to bring previously unassessed properties into the tax system while correcting cases where existing assessments are lower than the actual tax liability.
Officials believe the exercise will strengthen municipal revenue, enabling greater investment in civic amenities and urban infrastructure.
The initiative forms part of the Patna Municipal Corporation’s broader efforts to modernise property tax administration and improve financial resources for the city’s growing infrastructure and public service needs.
