Patna: The Danapur Railway Division is preparing to introduce body-worn cameras for Travelling Ticket Examiners (TTEs) to make ticket-checking operations on trains more transparent. According to railway officials, the cameras will record interactions between TTEs and passengers, allowing complaints and disputes to be examined using video evidence.
The division has initiated the tender process for procuring the devices, after which the cameras will be distributed to TTEs in phases.
Body Cameras to Record Ticket Checks
According to the Danapur Railway Division, TTEs will wear body cameras while carrying out ticket inspections on trains.
The recordings will capture conversations and events during ticket checks, providing officials with visual evidence if complaints are filed by either passengers or railway staff.
Why Is the Railway Introducing the System?
Railway officials said disputes frequently arise during ticket inspections over issues such as ticket availability, penalties and other enforcement-related matters.
In many cases, both passengers and TTEs submit conflicting complaints. Officials believe video recordings will help establish the sequence of events and support impartial investigations.
How the Recordings Will Be Used
According to the Railway, recordings from the body cameras will be reviewed whenever complaints are received.
If a passenger alleges misconduct by a TTE or a TTE reports inappropriate behaviour by a passenger, officials will be able to verify the incident using the recorded footage.
Focus on Transparency and Accountability
Officials said the body-camera system is expected to encourage TTEs to follow prescribed procedures during ticket inspections.
The presence of cameras may also discourage unnecessary arguments, as passengers will be aware that interactions during ticket checks could be recorded.
Tender Process Underway
The Danapur Railway Division has begun the tender process to procure body-worn cameras.
According to Senior Divisional Commercial Manager Abhinav Siddharth, the devices will be introduced in phases after procurement is completed.
He said the initiative is intended to improve transparency in ticket-checking operations and help establish the facts in disputes between passengers and TTEs.
