Patna: Danapur Railway Station in Bihar is set for a major infrastructure expansion, with a proposed master plan focusing on wider platforms, larger parking facilities and an expanded circulating area.
As part of the plan, the existing road between the Khagaul Road Overbridge (ROB) and the Danapur Station roundabout is proposed to be closed. The land currently occupied by the road would be used for expanding the station and its passenger facilities.
The Railway authorities are expected to send a written proposal to the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), as the road closure would require coordination over land and an alternative traffic route.
Alternative Route Planned For Patna-Bihta Traffic
Once the existing road is closed, vehicles travelling between Patna and Bihta are proposed to use an alternative route constructed beneath the Bihta Elevated Road.
Officials expect the diversion to improve traffic movement along the route and reduce congestion. The plan is also aimed at reducing delays and fuel consumption caused by vehicles remaining stuck in traffic.
The proposed changes could affect a large volume of daily traffic on the Patna-Bihta corridor, with reports estimating that around 300,000 motorists use the route.
Platforms A And A-1 To Be Expanded
The land freed after the closure of the existing road is proposed to be used partly for expanding Platforms A and A-1.
According to the reported plan, the platforms could be widened to more than twice their existing width. The additional space is expected to improve passenger movement and crowd management during train arrivals and departures.
Larger Parking And Circulating Area Proposed
The station is also planned to receive a new circulating area and parking zone outside the main station complex.
The proposed facility is expected to be larger than the existing circulating and parking areas at Patna Junction. It would accommodate both two-wheelers and four-wheelers and provide additional space for passenger drop-off and pick-up.
Railway-NHAI Coordination Expected
The expansion will require coordination between the Railways and NHAI because the existing road occupies land proposed for station development.
Officials from the two departments are expected to meet to discuss the proposed land transfer, road closure and alternative traffic arrangement.
The master plan is currently at the planning stage, and the proposed changes will depend on coordination between the concerned authorities and approval of the final plan.
