Patna: A 25-year-old dancer was gang-raped in a secluded field in Bihar’s Danapur after performing at a wedding, while her husband was held at gunpoint and forced to watch in a chilling act of cruelty. The assault occurred in the early hours of April 30, as the couple made their way to Dighwara railway station following the function.
According to the victim, she asked a young man for directions. He and two accomplices offered a lift but instead lured the couple to a hut near Shankarpur village. There, the three men took turns raping her, beating her, and threatening her husband with a firearm. “They said they’d shoot him in the mouth if he protested,” she said in her statement. “They told him — just watch quietly.”
The couple reported the crime to Dighwara police station, which coordinated with Shahpur police for immediate action. An FIR was lodged, and within hours, police arrested two accused — Manish Kumar and Manoj Kumar, both 25 and residents of Shankarpur. The third accused, Nagendra Kumar (38), remains absconding, with raids ongoing.
Danapur ASP Bhanu Pratap Singh said the survivor was part of a troupe that had performed at a wedding on April 29. “After the function, three miscreants intercepted the couple and assaulted the woman while terrorising her husband,” he confirmed. A forensic team has collected evidence from the site, and the arrested men have been remanded to judicial custody.
The case has sparked outrage, with calls for fast-tracked justice and enhanced protection for performers and women travelling for work at night.
