Darbhanga: A young man from Darbhanga has been arrested for posting an objectionable AI-generated video and edited photos of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP MLA Maithili Thakur on social media. The video quickly drew the attention of the district authorities, and the cyber police were asked to take immediate action. A case was registered, and the search for the accused began across several states.
The accused has been identified as Pankaj Kumar Yadav, a resident of Baheri Ujjaina in Darbhanga district. Police tracked him down to Jamnagar, Gujarat, with the support of the local police there. After his arrest, a team from Darbhanga reached Gujarat to bring him back for further investigation. According to officials, the man had moved to Gujarat after losing his father.
Police sources said that the youth will first be taken to Patna before being brought back to Darbhanga. Senior officers in Patna will question him to understand how the objectionable video was created, whether he worked alone, and whether more people were involved in sharing the content. Once the questioning is complete, a detailed update will be released by the police in Patna.
The case was registered at the Darbhanga Cyber Police Station on the instructions of SSP Jagunath Reddy Jala Reddy. After the edited reels and morphed photos came to light, the cyber police quickly began tracking the online activity linked to the video. Their investigation eventually led to Gujarat, where the accused was found and arrested.
According to the police, this case highlights the growing problem of using artificial intelligence and digital tools to create misleading and offensive content. Authorities have urged the public not to share such material, warning that spreading fake or harmful digital posts can lead to strict legal action. Officials say the arrest is a reminder that cybercrime, misinformation and the misuse of AI technology will not be taken lightly and will be dealt with firmly under the law.
