Patna/Rohtas: The wife of Dehri Nagar Parishad executive officer Vimal Kumar, who was shot dead in Rohtas district, has accused a local MLA of repeatedly harassing her husband and demanding money, while calling for an impartial investigation into the killing.
Speaking to reporters after Kumar’s body was brought to the family’s residence in Danapur following the postmortem, Babita Devi alleged that the MLA frequently summoned her husband and exerted pressure on him. She appealed for justice while mourning beside his body.
Allegations Against MLA
Babita Devi claimed the MLA had repeatedly demanded money from her husband, sometimes asking for Rs. 50 lakh and at other times Rs. 25 lakh.
She alleged that Kumar would tell her he could not arrange such amounts but did not disclose details of his conversations with the legislator. According to her, the alleged pressure had left him deeply distressed.
She also said she had advised her husband to seek a transfer to a smaller town because of the pressure he was facing.
Claim About Meeting Before The Killing
Babita Devi said her husband met the MLA on July 29. She said he did not discuss what transpired during the meeting after returning home, but she now suspects the meeting may have been linked to subsequent events.
A relative of the deceased also questioned the role of Kumar’s driver, alleging that his conduct appeared suspicious. The allegation has not been verified by investigators.
Questions Raised Over Driver’s Account
According to Babita Devi, the driver informed her over the phone that unidentified assailants riding an Apache motorcycle had shot Kumar.
She questioned why the vehicle had stopped during the attack and alleged that the driver failed to provide satisfactory answers when asked about his response to the incident.
Demand For Investigation
Babita Devi urged authorities to conduct a fair and comprehensive investigation and sought stringent action against those responsible for the killing. She also demanded further forensic examination of the suspects, including the driver, to establish the facts.
She further expressed concern over the safety of government officials, saying officers had become increasingly vulnerable while discharging their duties.
Police are continuing their investigation into the killing. The allegations made by the victim’s wife have not been independently verified, and there has been no public response from the MLA named by the family at the time of publication.
