Patna: Authorities at Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH) in Patna have heightened vigilance over dengue, setting up a dedicated 10-bed ward as a precautionary measure.
Hospital officials said three to four dengue-positive cases are currently being reported each week, though no severe cases have been recorded so far.
PMCH Superintendent Rajiv Kumar Singh said the move comes in response to changing weather conditions and a rise in mosquito activity, which could lead to an increase in dengue infections. He added that advance preparations have been made to ensure immediate admission and proper treatment of patients if cases rise.
Doctors have urged people to be aware of common symptoms of Dengue, which include high fever, headache, pain behind the eyes, joint and body aches, nausea or vomiting, and skin rashes.
They advised that individuals should seek testing if fever persists for more than three days or if there is a rapid drop in platelet count. Hospitalisation may be required in cases involving severe weakness, continuous vomiting, breathing difficulties or signs of bleeding.
Health officials emphasised that prevention remains the most effective strategy. Residents have been advised to avoid water stagnation around homes, wear full-sleeved clothing, use mosquito nets and repellents, and maintain proper hygiene.
Doctors also urged people not to panic, stressing that timely diagnosis and treatment can effectively manage the disease.
