Patna: A sudden change in weather conditions has brought dense fog across large parts of Bihar, disrupting road and rail traffic. At least 10 districts, including Madhubani, Bagaha, Bettiah and Gopalganj, are under a thick blanket of fog, with visibility hovering around 100 metres. Vehicles are being driven with headlights on even during early morning hours due to poor visibility.

The fog has also affected rail services. Six trains departing from Patna are running late because of low visibility conditions on the tracks.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a Yellow Alert for dense fog in 25 districts, including Darbhanga, Muzaffarpur and Katihar. The department has warned that visibility in these areas may remain around 100 metres, especially during early mornings and late nights. People are also likely to feel increased cold due to chilly winds.

In the last 24 hours, fog was reported in three districts, where visibility dropped close to 100 metres. Bhagalpur emerged as the coldest district in the state with a minimum temperature of 8°C.

Weather Updates from Across Bihar
In Patna, cold westerly winds are making mornings feel particularly chilly.
In Madhubani, similar winds have intensified the cold, with visibility near 100 metres.
Jamui and Nalanda reported clear weather, with sunshine in the morning hours.
Six trains departing from Patna remain delayed due to fog conditions.

Why Dense Fog Has Persisted for Two Days
According to meteorologists, the main reasons behind the continuous dense fog over the last two days are increased atmospheric moisture and the weak influence of a western disturbance active over North India.

At night, wind speeds drop significantly, allowing moisture to accumulate near the ground. Since minimum temperatures have not fallen sharply, the fog conditions have strengthened further. Clear skies and calm weather are also causing fog to linger longer during morning hours.

No Major Weather Change Expected in Next 24 Hours
Weather experts said there are no signs of any major weather system becoming active in the near future. As a result, no significant change in weather is expected over the next 24 hours.

Light cold conditions will continue during mornings and evenings, while daytime temperatures may remain normal due to sunshine. Fog intensity may reduce if wind speed increases or cloud cover develops.

Light Fog Likely in Patna Mornings
In the state capital, light to moderate fog may be seen in the morning hours, but it is expected to clear as the day progresses. There is no major change expected in Patna’s minimum and maximum temperatures.

The IMD has not issued any alert for Patna at present. Except for the districts under Yellow Alert, the rest of Bihar is likely to see normal weather conditions, with only light fog in some areas and minimal impact on daily life.
