Patna: The 79th Independence Day was celebrated with pride and enthusiasm at Pandit Nehru Stadium in Sikandarpur on Friday. Deputy Chief Minister and In-charge Minister Vijay Kumar Sinha hoisted the national flag in the presence of senior police and administrative officers. Among those attending were Divisional Commissioner Rajkumar, Deputy Inspector General of Police Chandan Kumar Kushwaha, District Magistrate Subrata Kumar Sen, and SSP Sushil Kumar. The event drew participation from local residents, schoolchildren, and civic groups.
The celebrations began with an inspection of the parade by Mr Sinha, followed by a tribute to some of the nation’s most celebrated freedom fighters, including Amar Balidani Khudiram Bose, Jubba Sahni, and Prafulla Chaki. In his address, the Deputy CM said their sacrifices played a crucial role in the struggle for independence and that their legacy must inspire present and future generations. He added that the nation will never forget their contribution to India’s freedom.
Speaking on government initiatives, Mr Sinha listed several welfare schemes designed to improve the lives of the poor and vulnerable. These included the Ayushman Card Scheme, which provides free medical treatment, the free ration scheme for low-income families, the PM Awas Yojana for housing, and enhanced pension benefits for senior citizens and people with disabilities. He stressed that these programmes are now reaching those who need them without unnecessary delays or obstacles. “The needy no longer have to wander for help. The government is committed to delivering all facilities directly to them,” he said.
The programme also included the felicitation of meritorious students and honouring of living freedom fighters for their service and sacrifice. After the stadium ceremony, the tricolour was also hoisted at other key locations, including the Collectorate, Divisional Commissioner’s Office, Deputy Inspector General of Police Office, and the SSP Office. Across the district, the day was marked by patriotic songs, cultural performances, and renewed calls to work for the progress of the nation.
