Patna: Senior physician Dr Diwakar Tejaswi has urged the medical fraternity to uphold the highest standards of ethics, compassion and public service, saying that the responsibility of a doctor extends beyond treating disease to restoring hope and confidence in patients.
Speaking at a programme organised on Monday at the Bihar Industries Association auditorium in Patna on the eve of National Doctors’ Day, Dr Tejaswi paid tribute to Dr Bidhan Chandra Roy, the renowned physician and former Chief Minister of West Bengal, whose birth anniversary is observed as National Doctors’ Day in India.
Tribute To Dr B.C. Roy
Dr Tejaswi described Dr Roy’s life as an enduring example of service, dedication and professional excellence.
He said every doctor should draw inspiration from Dr Roy’s ideals while fulfilling their responsibilities towards society.
“Doctors have the privilege of serving people from every walk of life, and that service carries both responsibility and honour,” he said.
Message To Young Doctors
Addressing young medical professionals, Dr Tejaswi said medicine is more than a profession, describing it as an opportunity to improve lives through knowledge, empathy and commitment.
He said doctors not only treat illnesses but also help patients and their families regain confidence, courage and hope during difficult times.
Dr Tejaswi urged doctors to make integrity, compassion, ethical conduct and respect for patients the foundation of their professional lives.
Preserving Public Trust
Highlighting the importance of maintaining public confidence in the healthcare system, Dr Tejaswi said safeguarding the dignity and credibility of the medical profession was a shared responsibility.
He called on doctors to continue strengthening the profession through ethical practice, quality healthcare and human-centred care.
Concluding his address, he extended his greetings to doctors ahead of National Doctors’ Day and said, “A good doctor treats a patient not only with medicines but also through conduct, empathy and dedication.”
The programme was organised by PAHAL (Public Awareness for Healthful Approach for Living), where Dr Tejaswi serves as Medical Director and Senior Physician.
