Patna: A political activist, Dularchand Yadav, was shot dead in broad daylight on Thursday in the Tal area of Mokama block in Patna district, police confirmed. Yadav, a supporter of the Jan Suraaj Party, was campaigning for candidate Piyush Priyadarshi when the attack occurred. Authorities have linked the murder to a dispute over election rivalry.
Dularchand Yadav was a familiar figure in the Mokama Tal area, having previously been an active member of the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD). During the 1990s, under Lalu Prasad’s leadership, Dularchand was known for his strong local influence and is credited with helping build the party’s grassroots cadre.
In recent years, he aligned with the Jan Suraaj movement, supporting Piyush Priyadarshi in the current election. Reports suggest that a campaign song he recently performed in support of another candidate went viral on social media, adding to his visibility in the constituency.
Police officials, including the ASP of Barh, the Rural SP, and the SSP of Patna, visited the scene shortly after the incident. A heavy police presence has been established, and investigators are probing whether the killing stemmed from longstanding political rivalries or local disputes over influence.
Supporters of two candidates reportedly clashed in the Ghoswari Tal area of the Mokama assembly constituency, escalating tensions ahead of the elections. Following the confrontation, Dularchand Yadav, a former criminal accused, was found dead under suspicious circumstances. Police have registered a case, conducted raids in the area, and are carrying out a post-mortem examination. Further legal proceedings and investigations are ongoing to determine the exact circumstances of his death.
