Patna: Senior officials from the Employees’ State Insurance Scheme (ESIS) and the Employees’ State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) conducted a joint inspection of two key hospitals in Patna, reviewing the quality of healthcare services provided to insured workers. The hospitals at Digha and Jamal Road cater to thousands of labourers and their families under the government’s social security health programme.
The inspection was led by the Director of the Employees’ State Insurance Scheme, Bihar, along with the Regional Director of ESIC, Government of India. They were accompanied by the under secretary, branch officers and other senior officials. The team assessed whether various welfare schemes aimed at providing accessible and affordable medical care to workers were being implemented effectively.
Officials examined core facilities including cleanliness of wards and premises, availability of essential medicines, staffing levels and seating arrangements for patients. The review focused on ensuring that the hospitals meet basic standards of hygiene and patient comfort, particularly for daily wage earners and industrial workers who rely heavily on these public health services.
Several irregularities were identified during the visit. Authorities issued directions to the concerned departments to address shortcomings immediately and improve overall service delivery. Officials stressed that workers must receive the full benefits of government-run medical schemes without delay or disruption, underscoring the administration’s commitment to strengthening healthcare access for insured persons across the state.
