Patna: A youth was critically injured after being shot inside a car on the Fatuha–Daulatpur rural road in Patna district on Sunday morning, police said.
The incident took place near Dumri Khanda around 7.30am under the jurisdiction of Fatuha police station. The injured man has been identified as Bittu Kumar, a resident of Kurji in Patna. He sustained a bullet injury to his abdomen and was later referred to Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH) after initial treatment at a local hospital.
Police said the shooting allegedly took place inside the same car in which the victim was travelling.
Three men were travelling in the vehicle
According to preliminary information, an SUV travelling from Patna diverted from the main road onto the Fatuha–Daulatpur rural route. Three people were reportedly inside the vehicle.
Police said an argument broke out among the occupants near Dumri Mor, following which Bittu Kumar was shot. After the incident, all the occupants allegedly fled the spot on foot, leaving the injured man inside the vehicle.
Local residents rushed to the scene after hearing the gunshot and informed the police.
Cartridges and shell casing recovered
A team from Fatuha police station reached the spot and recovered three live cartridges and one empty shell casing from the area. The injured man was taken to Fatuha hospital before being referred to PMCH for advanced treatment.
Police also seized the vehicle. Officials said a board carrying the words “GST, Government of India” was found displayed on the front of the car.
Probe underway into motive
Police are investigating whether the incident was linked to a gang rivalry or a personal dispute. Officials are also verifying the background and criminal history, if any, of the injured man.
Fatuha DSP Awadhesh Kumar said three people were travelling in the SUV when an altercation took place among them near Dumri Mor.
