Patna: The Bihar Government has ordered the sealing of five hospitals and six hotels in Patna for failing to comply with fire safety regulations despite receiving repeated notices. The move comes amid heightened scrutiny of fire safety standards following recent fatal fire incidents in Delhi and Muzaffarpur.
According to officials, the establishments continued operations without implementing the required safety measures, prompting authorities to initiate stricter enforcement action.
Hospitals Identified for Sealing
The hospitals slated for sealing are Patna Central Hospital, Arogya Vardhan Hospital, Pinnacle Hospital, Shyama Trust and Research Hospital, and Apex Hospital.
DIG Fire Services Manoj Kumar Nat confirmed that instructions have been issued to local fire safety officials to proceed with the sealing process. The operation will be carried out in coordination with the district administration.
He said the government had issued multiple notices to these institutions, but adequate corrective measures were not undertaken within the stipulated period.
More Establishments Under Scrutiny
The department has also served notices to several hospitals, hotels and restaurants across the city. Officials warned that any establishment failing to meet fire safety requirements within the prescribed timeframe could face similar action.
The ongoing enforcement drive is part of a broader effort to ensure compliance with fire safety norms in public buildings and commercial establishments.
Notice Issued to Khan Global Studies
Among the institutions served notices is Khan Global Studies, a coaching institute operating in Patna.
According to govt, a fire safety audit conducted earlier identified shortcomings in the institute’s safety arrangements. Officials have directed the institute to implement necessary measures immediately.
DIG Manoj Kumar Nat said further action would be taken if the deficiencies are not addressed within the time provided in the notice.
Audit Drive Intensified Across Patna
The government has constituted 27 audit teams across nine fire stations in Patna to inspect hospitals, hotels and coaching institutes.
Officials said around 250 establishments have been audited and inspected so far. As part of the ongoing campaign, notices were recently issued to 32 major hospitals and 40 hotels and restaurants in the city.
The department said the objective of the exercise is to strengthen fire preparedness and reduce risks in buildings that witness high public footfall.
