Patna: As the Bihar Assembly elections gather momentum, a delegation of foreign diplomats from several countries, including Japan and the United Kingdom, arrived in the state on Sunday for a two-day visit to observe the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) campaign and India’s democratic process.
The delegation also includes diplomats from Indonesia, Denmark, Australia, Bhutan, and South Africa. The visit is part of the BJP’s “Know BJP” initiative, launched by party president J.P. Nadda to engage with foreign missions and offer an insight into the party’s organization, ideology, and role in India’s democratic system.
Vijay Chauthaiwale, who heads the BJP’s foreign affairs department, said the initiative aims to provide diplomats with “an on-the-ground understanding of how the BJP functions and how India’s elections unfold at the grassroots level.”
“The delegation will interact with senior BJP leaders, observe campaign activities, and visit key constituencies to understand how democracy operates in practice,” Chauthaiwale added.
Similar delegations have previously visited Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh, and Rajasthan during state elections to study the BJP’s organizational structure and campaign management.
The visit comes at a crucial phase of the Bihar elections, as major political alliances — the ruling NDA and the opposition Grand Alliance — intensify their campaigns across the state. The diplomats’ observations are expected to contribute to a broader understanding of India’s electoral diversity and grassroots political engagement.
