Motihari/Patna: Despite heightened security at the India-Nepal border following violent protests in Nepal, five foreign nationals were arrested in Bihar’s Motihari district on Saturday night.
The men, identified as four Sudanese citizens—Abdul Fitah (44), Rama Siddiqui (38), Ali Abdul Ghaffar (27) and Ahmed Dafalah (37)—and Bolivian national Miguel Solano Chavez (32), were apprehended by the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) and local police. According to Motihari superintendent of police Swarn Prabhat, they were planning to board a bus to Patna after entering India from Nepal.
Police said the group was detained at Motihari bus stand after attempting to hide in the premises. During questioning, the Sudanese nationals claimed they were studying in Hyderabad, but could not explain why they crossed into India through Nepal. The Bolivian national also failed to provide a clear account of his purpose.
Investigators recovered suspicious notes and books written in Urdu from their possession. The Intelligence Bureau has been alerted, and the documents are being examined by experts.
The arrests come days after violent protests in Nepal over a ban on social media left 72 people dead. Although the Nepalese government has since lifted the ban, strict security measures remain in place along the porous India-Nepal border.
