Patna: With the Ganga river’s water level rising steadily and breaching danger marks at several ghats in Patna, the district administration has gone into high alert mode amid growing fears of flooding in low-lying areas.
According to officials, the water level at Gandhi Ghat has already crossed the danger mark, while Digha Ghat, Danapur, and Maner are witnessing continuous and alarming increases in water levels. The surging river threatens to submerge riverside neighborhoods if the trend continues.
In response, the Patna district administration and the State Disaster Management Department have ramped up monitoring and preparedness efforts. Water levels are being tracked round-the-clock, and preventive measures are being implemented in vulnerable zones.
119 High Grounds Identified for Emergency Relief
Authorities have identified 119 high-altitude locations across Patna district to be used as emergency relief centers, community kitchens, or temporary shelters in case of displacement. These sites will serve as hubs for disaster relief operations if water enters residential areas.
245 Sailors on Standby, Boats and Divers Readied
To support rescue and evacuation operations, 245 trained sailors have been kept ready. Boats have been mapped and kept in strategic locations for quick deployment. In addition, arrangements have been made for divers to aid in underwater search and rescue if required.
SDRF and NDRF Teams Deployed
Two teams from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) are actively deployed in Patna. Additionally, a team from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has been stationed in Didarganj on standby to assist in any emergency.
Enhanced Administrative Monitoring
All sub-divisional officers, zonal officers, and local officials have been tasked with inspecting and monitoring flood-prone zones. Teams from the Water Resources Department are conducting continuous inspections of embankments to prevent breaches and mitigate risk.
Support for Affected Livestock and Temporary Shelter
In rural and flood-threatened areas, arrangements have been made for animal fodder and distribution of plastic sheets to provide temporary shelter. This is aimed at minimizing hardship for families who may be forced to relocate due to rising waters.
24×7 District Disaster Control Center Operational
The Patna District Disaster Control Center is functioning round-the-clock to coordinate relief and rescue efforts. Citizens can report emergencies or seek assistance by calling 0612-2210118. The center is also monitoring real-time updates on water levels and coordinating with all relevant departments.
