Gayaji: A middle-aged labourer was beaten to death in Bihar’s Gaya district after he objected to a group of young men playing mobile games and creating a disturbance in his neighbourhood, police said on Monday.
The incident took place in the Mangla Gauri area, where the victim, identified as 56-year-old Arjun Manjhi, lived with his family. According to relatives, a group of around six young men regularly gathered in the street near the house at night, playing games on their mobile phones, shouting and using abusive language.
Family members said the nightly disturbance had become a routine source of distress for residents. On the day of the incident, Manjhi approached the group and asked them to stop playing games on the street and leave the area. The confrontation quickly escalated.
Police said the youths allegedly attacked Manjhi with sticks and iron rods. When his son tried to intervene, he too was assaulted. The attackers then threw Manjhi into a nearby drain and fled, leaving him critically injured.
Manjhi was rushed to Magadh Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.
Following the incident, police teams reached the spot and launched an investigation. Two of the accused have been arrested, while efforts are under way to trace and apprehend the remaining suspects. Officials said raids were being conducted at possible hideouts.
The killing has sparked fear and anger in the locality, with residents expressing concern over rising violence and the lack of deterrence against such acts. Police said further action would be taken as the investigation progresses.
