Gaya: Rail passengers travelling from Gaya Junction are set to benefit from temporary route diversions of several long-distance trains following infrastructure work at Barwadih station in Jharkhand.
The Dhanbad Railway Division is carrying out non-interlocking work at Barwadih station between June 23 and June 27. As a result, the routes of multiple express trains have been altered, with several services now operating through Gaya Junction.
Additional Travel Options for Passengers
The diversion is expected to provide passengers from Gaya, Jehanabad, Nawada and nearby districts with improved connectivity to major destinations, including Delhi, Jammu Tawi and Varanasi.
Railway officials said the route changes are temporary and have been implemented to facilitate infrastructure upgrades aimed at enhancing operational safety and efficiency.
Trains Running Through Gaya on Diverted Routes
According to the railway administration, the following trains will operate via Gaya Junction during the period of diversion:
- 12873 Hatia–Anand Vihar Jharkhand Express
- 12877 Ranchi–New Delhi Garib Rath Express
- 18101 Tatanagar–Jammu Tawi Express
- 18309 Sambalpur–Jammu Tawi Express
- 18523 Visakhapatnam–Banaras Express
- 18611 Ranchi–Banaras Express
Several return-direction services of these trains will also be routed through Gaya.
Some Passenger Trains Cancelled
While the diversions offer additional options for passengers travelling through Gaya, the ongoing work has also led to the cancellation of 14 passenger train services on various dates.
The affected trains include services operating on the Barkakana–Dehri-on-Sone, Barwadih–Chunar, Gomoh–Barwadih and Barkakana–Varanasi MEMU routes.
Passengers in the Palamu region and adjoining areas may face inconvenience due to these cancellations.
Railway Issues Advisory
Railway authorities have also suspended temporary stoppages of certain trains at Barwadih station during the work period.
Passengers intending to board or alight from affected trains have been advised to use Daltonganj or Mangra stations where applicable.
Officials Urge Caution
Manish Saurabh, Senior Divisional Commercial Manager and Senior Public Relations Officer, appealed to passengers to verify the latest operational status of their trains before commencing their journey.
He said the temporary arrangements are necessary to ensure passenger safety and support smoother rail operations in the future.
Services Expected to Normalise After June 27
Railway officials expect train operations to return to normal once the non-interlocking work is completed on June 27.
Passengers have been advised to stay updated regarding cancellations, diversions and schedule changes through official railway channels before travelling.
